We aim to work in partnership with parents to provide a high standard of care and education for children and foster a positive relationship with parents. We acknowledge parents as the primary carers and first educators of their children and recognise the vital role that they play in their child’s life. We operate an open-door policy; parents are welcomed in at any time following up to date COVID guidelines.

If parents have particular skills or an area of expertise that they would like to share we welcome and value their contribution. We also have special days where parents/guardians or close family members can join the children in a session or a specifically organised day such as a fun day or grandparent’s day. We feel the children gain a lot from these special sessions and it is also a chance for the children’s family to see what their child does on a nursery day.

Parents are kept fully informed and consulted about all aspects of their child’s care, learning and development and have open access to their child’s learning journeys through our Parent Zone App. The nursery promotes a two-way sharing of information between parents and practitioners. There are several ways we contribute to this such as:

  • The parent contribution board, such as the ‘Wow tree’: Special achievements at home are recorded by parents on the board and are celebrated at nursery during circle time.

  • Home link diaries: The activities of the day are noted and placed in the child’s diary and parents can also write any comments or requirements, this has been especially useful if extended family members are picking up the children.

  • Parents meetings: Parents are invited to the nursery to discuss their child’s progress with their key person. A record of this is given to the parents where there is also a section completed to extend the learning activities which can be carried out at home.

  • Parents have access to all policies and procedures to enable them to understand fully how our service operates. We also display a policy of the month for parents to read and to give any feedback or comments on that policy.

  • Information for parents is regularly updated on the parents’ notice boards and regular newsletters are sent out to all parents via email.

  • Parents are given a contract clearly stating the terms and conditions of the partnership agreement.

  • Our parent partnership meetings where parents are invited to work with the nursery on social and fundraising events as well as encouraging other parents/guardians to become involved in nursery life.
